Who contributed to its popularity? What did critics have to say? What were the social and cultural impacts of its publication? And why are we still talking about it today.
Through various editions of Louis Hémon’s novel, legal agreements, promotional posters, and merchandise, the exhibition examines the media strategies that fueled the growing enthusiasm for Maria Chapdelaine following its French publication in 1921. It also highlights the key figures—often overlooked—who played a crucial role in its success.
