Artist Biography
Born in Montreal on December 23, 1911, Stanley Cosgrove was a Quebec painter, draftsman, and muralist who studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal before heading to Mexico. He spent eight months there, refining his techniques, particularly in the application of thin, dry layers of paint, attention to form, and the use of subtle colors. He passed away on April 28, 2002, at the age of 90, leaving behind a vast collection of serene figurative works featuring forests, women, and still life.
